...THE NEWSROOM

Just few words to suggest you to see the new tv series by Aroon Sorkin, screenwriter of  "West Wing" and "Studio 60 on the Sunset Streep" on tv, and Oscar-winning for the script of "The Social Network" last year.

Only the first episode has been aired, but it's already possible to speak of a great script, quick dialogues and "suspense" in a tv series that wants to show behind the scene of a canal news of USA television. And welcome back to Jeff Daniels as a main character.

BAZINGAAAAAAAA

 ...THE BIG BANG THEORY

For who knows this tv show, just 2 words are enough: Sheldon Cooper. One of the best characters in a tv series ever!

I did not laugh so much for a sitcom from "Friends" time. This tv series is brilliant and in my opinion is one of the best ever.

4 nerds on a couch, each one different, with different traits but the same issue: great minds but unable to have social relantionship, especially with women, until one beautiful but a little bit ignorant girl, Penny, relates with them. Infinite jokes and facial expressions better than words. And I liked how the characters have grown in these 5 seasons: Sheldon who discovers sarcasm and starts a "relationship" with Amy Farrah Fowler (one of the best couples I've seen on tv ever); Raj and his being metrosexual; Howard and love; Leonard and his being more confident.

And the characters of their mothers help to understand their childs: my favorite is Howie's mom of course, you never see her but you can listen to her very well!

Sheldon deserves a post apart, that I'm going to write soon, but in the maintime I can say that it's impossible not to love him even if most of the time he is annoying.You always forgive him cause he's different, sometimes it seems like he lives in another universe or he is a child, other times he is an arrogant bastard. And a special thank to Jim Parsons who performs him in an exceptional way.

[Per chi conosce questo show, solo 2 parole: Sheldon Cooper. Uno dei migliori personaggi di una serie tv da sempre!Non ridevo così tanto per una sitcom dai tempi di "Friends".Questa serie tv è brillante e per me una delle migliori di sempre. 4 nerds su un divano,l'uno diverso dall'altro,con diverse caratteristiche ma lo stesso problema: grandi menti incapaci di avere una relzaione sociale, specialmente con le donne, finchè una bellissima ma un po' ignorante ragazza, Penny, inizia a relazionarsi con loro. Battute a non finire ed espressioni facciali migliori delle parole. E mi è piciuto anche come i personaggi sono cresciuti in queste 5 stagioni: Sheldon che scopre il sarcasmo e inizia una "realzione" con Amy Farrah Fowler (una delle migliori coppie mai viste in tv); Raj ed il suo essere metrosexual; Howard e l'amore; Leonard e la maggiore sicurezza in se stesso.E i personaggi delle loro madri aiutano a capire i loro figli: il mio preferito è ovviamente la madre di Howie,non la vedi mai ma la senti molto bene! Sheldon merita una discorso a parte, e presto scriverò un post su di lui, ma nel frattempo posso dire che è impossibile non amarlo anche se per la maggior parte del tempo è fastidioso. Lo perdoni sempre perchè è diverso,a volte sembra viva in un altro universo o sembra un bimbo,mentre altre volte è un arrogante bastardo. E un ringraziamento speciale va a Jim Parsons che lo interpreta in modo eccezionale.Stefania]

They are the best

...MAD MEN 5th Season

The 5th season of Mad Men is just finished and we are very sad. One of the best tv series ever done can't have only 13 episodes for each season: it's too short!

Anyway, about this season: we have waited more months than usually to see it and our expectations were very high, but they didn't disappointed us.

Only 13 episodes, but in which everything happened, maybe more than in the other 4th!

Joan associates, Roger divorces, Peggy quits, Betty eats and harbors envy, Don in love... and a suicide in the agency. What could we ask more than this?

Wonderful soundtrack, also The Beatles (apparently they have paid 250.000$ for one song) and memorable scenes: Don who searchs Megan after he left her alone, the "sexual love" between Roger and Megan's mother at the party, Lane who tryes to fix the Jaguar to kill himself, Don who walks away from the set of Megan's spot and the scene of this photo: 5 partners again. But our favorite is Don's look in the last scene in which you understand that the old Don is back. And now we have to wait the next seson.....

[La quinta stagione di Mad Men è appena finita e siamo molto tristi. Una delle migliori serie tv mai fatte non può avere solo 13 episodi per ogni stagione: è troppo corta! Comunque, a proposito di questa stagione: abbiamo aspettato più mesi del solito per vederla e le nostre aspettative erano molto alte, ma non ci hanno deluso. Solo 13 episodi, ma nei quali è successo di tutto, forse più che nelle altre 4 stagioni! Joan socia, Roger divorzia, Peggy si licenzia, Betty mangia e diventa invidiosa, Don innamorato...e un suicidio in agenzia. Cosa avremmo potuto chiedere di più?

Meravigliosa colonna sonora, anche i Beatles (sembra abbiano pagato 250.000$ per una canzone) e scene memorabili: Don che cerca Megna dopo averla lasciata sola, il "rapporto sessuale" tra Roger e la madre di Megan al ricevimento , Lane che cerca di aggiustare la Jaguar per uccidersi, Don che si allontana dal set dello spot di Megan e la scena di questa foto: di nuovo 5 soci. Ma la nostra preferita è lo sguardo di Don nell'ultima scena in cui capisci che il vecchio Don è tornato. E ora aspettiamo la prossima stagione.....

...SHAMELESS  (US version)

Until now we have spoken only about Sheila character in this tv series, but it deserves more words e more attention.

We are waiting for 3rd season,so we suggest you to see the first two seasons and tell us we were right!

There are a lot of reasons why you have to see it:

-this absurd family that live on the edge of decense, trying to take anything from anybody, cause they know they can count only on themselves;

-the love between these 6 brothers and the way in which everyone tries to have a normal life;

-their daddy, a great and unforgettable William H. Macy;

-the relationship between Fiona and Steve/Jimmy;

-the amazing opening (it's going to be soon one of our best openings);

-their neighbours, Veronica and Kev, and Sheila of course!

Anyway it's better we stop cause the list can only increase. So, see "Shameless" and let us know what do you think about it!

[Finora abbiamo parlato solo del personaggio di Sheila, ma questa serie tv merita più parole e più attenzione.Stiamo aspettando la terza stagione,così vi suggeriamo di vedere le prime due stagioni e dirci se avevamo ragione!Ci sono molte ragioni per le quali dovete vederla:

-quest'assurda famiglia che vive al limite della decenza,cercando di prendere qualcosa da chiunque,perchè sanno che possono contare solo su loro stessi;

-l'amore tra questi 6 fratelli e il modo in cui ognuno di loro cerca di avere una vita normale;

-il loro papà, un grandioso ed indimenticabile William H. Macy;

-la relazione tra Fiona e Steve/Jimmy;

-la fantastica sigla(che sarà presto tra le nostre best openings);

-i loro vicini, Veronica e Kev, e Sheila ovviamente!

Ad ogni modo è meglio che ci fermiamo perchè la lista potrebbe solo aumentare.Quindi, guardate "Shameless e fateci sapere cosa ne pensate!

What we can see during the summer...

Each of us knows that if most of tv series aren't already finished, they are about to end, at least for this season.

So, while we are waiting for the fall season, there are some tv series that it's possible to see on summer, during the vacation.

Obviously they are light, nice, easy and perfect for this period.

Personally, I follow:

Nurse Jackie: the 4th season is going to finish. Different from the other 3, but the change has done good to the show.

Damages: one name...Glenn Close! The first 2 seasons are the best ones, but this one will be the last so I have to see it.

White collar: the 4th season will begin in july. It's worth seeing it even if only for the protagonist, Neil Caffrey, and his suits.

Franklin & Bash: two a little bit mad friends, but also extraordinary lawyers with personal methods (2nd season).

Leverage: 5th season. Frauds for a good reason. Maybe this one could be the last season, I think it's time.

Royal pains: 4th season has just begun, it is a little boring but it's easy to see.

Saving hope: new entry, I've seen only an episode. Medical drama with paranormal activity. We'll see...

Common law: new tv series. Two cops, one rich and white, the other black and orphan, go in treatment together. It seems I have already seen it, but it's funny. I give it a chance.

And I also suggest to watch something you've missed in the last tv season or previous ones. I'm going to finish: Person of interest, Touch, Dexter and I'm thinking to see again Will&Grace or Friends. Let me know if you agree with my advices.

[Ognuno di noi sa che se la maggiorparte delle serie tv non sono ancora finite,stanno per,almeno per questa stagione.Così,mentre aspettiamo la stagione autunnale,ci sono alcune serie tv che è possibile vedere d'estate,durante le vacanze. Ovviamente sono leggere,carine,semplici e perfette per questo periodo.

Personalmente,io seguo:

E suggerisco anche di guardare qualcosa che avete perso nella scorsa stagione televisiva.Io devo finire: Person of interest,Touch,Dexter e sto anche pensando di rivedere Will&Grace o Friends.Fatemi sapere se siete d'accordo con i miei consigli!

characters to love: Eli Gold

...THE GOOD WIFE

I absolutely love this character. He has a wonderful sense of humour, he is very smart and confident. He knows very well his job and what he wants, and he's capable of using any means to get what he thinks it's necessary to win.

He is a winner, but he is also ambiguos. Sometimes I have the doubt he cares about Florrick family but I'm not sure. Infact he's great in his job as much he is a disaster in his relationships, most of all with his daughter and his ex-wife.

[Amo totalmente questo personaggio. Ha un fantastico senso dell'umorismo, è molto intelligente e sicuro di sè. Conosce molto bene il suo lavoro e sa quello che vuole, è capace di usare qualsiasi mezzo per ottenere ciò che ritiene gli serva per vincere. E' un vincitore, ma è anche ambiguo. A volte ho il dubbio che abbia a cuore la famiglia Florrick ma non ne sono sicura. Infatti è fantastico nel suo lavoro quanto è un disastro nelle sue relazioni, soprattutto con sua figlia e la sua ex-moglie.

Dawson is back!

...DON'T TRUST THE BITCH IN APARTMENT 23

A new sitcom in which there are two girls, one naive and trusts people too much, the other one crazy and selfish. They are roommates. This show is funny and nice but the most important thing, for which I suggest to see it, is James Ven Der Bek. That's him: Dawson Leery. And who doesn't know Dawson?

Van Der Beek performs himself that try to leave Dawson forget but at the same time he uses all the time his character.

And the way in which he does that is fantastic: he's superficial, a bit thick but full of women thanks to Dawson.

But they could choose another title for the show: "Don't trust the bitch in apartment 23" is too long!

[Una nuova sitcom in cui ci sono due ragazze, una ingenua e che si fida troppo della gente, l'altra pazza ed egoista.Sono coinquline.Questo show è divertente e carino,ma la cosa più importante,per la quale suggerisco di guardarlo, è James Van Der Beek.E' lui:Dawson Leery.E chi non conosce Dawson? Van Der Beek interpreta se stesso che cerca di far dimenticare Dawson ma allo stesso tempo usa il suo personaggio continuamente.E il modo in cui lo fa è fantastico: è superficiale,un po' tonto ma pieno di donne grazie a Dawson. Avrebbero però potuto scegliere un altro titolo per questa sitcom: "Don't trust the bitch in apartment 23" è troppo lungo!

for the first time we don't like

...GREY'S ANATOMY  8th SEASON FINALE

The 8th season of Grey's Anatomy is over. But for the first time we are not satisfied.
First of all: we liked Lexie and we'll miss her. She was funny and smart and her relationship with Mark cannot end this way!
And then: a plane crash? really? They know it's too much infact Cristina herself says that it's impossible that everything happens to them. (even if we have to admit that those lines were really witty and Cristina was the perfect and only character that could say something like that)
So this time they have exaggerated with the imagination. This time Grey's Anatomy seems a soap opera and we are curious to see how they are able to fix all this mess.
We already know we will see everyone dealing with post traumatic stress.. because we have already seen it after the shooting at the end of season 6. This time we would like to see something different.
We hope there will not be a resurrection, a ghost or something like that.
(actually we hope in Lexie's resurrection... it's possible, isn't it?)

[L'ottava stagione di Grey's Anatomy è finita. Ma per la prima volta non siamo soddisfatte.

Prima di tutto: ci piaceva Lexie e ci mancherà. Era divertente e intelligente e la sua relazione con Mark non può finire così!

E poi: un incidente aereo? davvero? Sanno che è troppo infatti la stessa Cristina dice che è impossibile che accada tutto a loro (anche se dobbiamo ammettere che quelle battute erano molto spiritose e Cristina era il perfetto e solo personaggio che poteva dire qualcosa del genere)

Così questa volta hanno esagerato con l'immaginazione. Questa volta Grey's Anatomy sembra una soap opera e siamo curiose di vedere come sistemerano tutto questo casino.

Sappiamo già che vedremo tutti avere a che fare con stress post traumatico.. perchè lo abbiamo già visto dopo la sparatoria alla fine della sesta stagione. Questa volta vorremmo vedere qualcosa di diverso.

Speriamo che non ci sia una resurrezione, un fantasma o qualcosa del genere.

(in realtà speriamo nella resurrezione di Lexie... è possibile, vero?)

...BAND OF BROTHERS

...THE PACIFIC

Two tv series about the Second World War: Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Same producers: Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.

9 years of distance.

Only one war, but it seems to see two different wars. One in  Europe, one in the Pacific Ocean.

I have to say my opinion, I've loved more the first: Band of Brothers.

I don't know if it's because I'm european so it's more familiar, for the colors, nature, places. Or maybe for the story that I've found more intersting.

But for both of them I can say: great actors and spectacular visual effects. Scripts  studied in the minimum details. An exciting and touching stories.

Scenes in which you feel scared and terrified with these young guys in european woods, or in the slush of the small isles in the pacific.

Cause war is war wherewhere it is.

[Due serie tv sulla Seconda Guerra Mondiale: Band of Brothers e The Pacific. Stessi produttori: Steven Spielberg e Tom Hanks. 9 anni di distanza.

Una guerra soltanto, ma sembra di vedere due diverse guerre. Una in Europa ed una nel Pacifico.Se devo dirlo, io ho amato di più la prima: Band of Brothers.

Non so se è perchè sono europea quindi è più familiare, per colori, natura, posti. O forse per la storia che ho trovato più interessante. Ma per entrambe posso dire: grandi attori e spettacolari effetti visivi. Una sceneggiatura studiata nei minimi dettagli. Una storia emozionante e toccante. Scene in cui ti senti spaventata e terrorizzata insieme a quei giovani ragazzi nei boschi europei, o nella fanghiglia delle piccole isole nel pacifico. Perchè la guerra è guerra ovunque essa sia.

There is not much to say about this opening. It speaks for itself.
It creates curiosity with the irony: blood and knives.

It could have been great! (...but it wasn't...)

...ALCATRAZ

As we promised in the post about canceled series (http://40-minutes.blogspot.it/2012/05/end.html) today we talk about ALACTRAZ:
The first question about Alcatraz is: JJ Abrams, what happened to you? We understand that after the end of his creature, LOST, maybe he has felt alone or "lost". It's the only explanation or justification that we've found.
The first 3 or 4 episodes caught our attention but after them you can stop and decide to watch another tv series, because you've understood too many things and mostly there are a lot of easy solutions in the script that it's impossible to believe that this is an Abrams' creation.
The main idea is very good but it's poorly developed, so our interest dropped after a few episodes and everything became too predictable.
Maybe after LOST we had too high expectations, but this was too much disappointing!
Second question: if in every episode there are only one or maybe two people from 1963, how many episodes and seasons did you planned to arrive at 302?? 

Now that it's been canceled, we will never know exactly what happened in 1963... Well.. actually we have understood everything already! We won't miss it.

[Come promesso nel post sulle serie cancellate (http://40-minutes.blogspot.it/2012/05/end.html) oggi parliamo di ALCATRAZ.

La prima domanda su Alcatraz è: JJ Abrams, cosa ti è successo? Noi capiamo che dopo la fine della sua creatura, LOST, forse si sia sentito solo o "perso". È la sola spiegazione o giustificazione che abbiamo trovato.
I primi 3 o 4 episodi hanno catturato la nostra attenzione, ma dopo di essi puoi fermarti e decidere di guardare un'altra serie tv, perchè hai capito troppe cose e soprattutto ci sono un sacco di soluzioni facili nella sceneggiatura che è impossibile credere che questa sia una creazione di Abrams.

L'idea principale è molto buona, ma sviluppata poveramente, così il nostro interesse è crollato dopo pochi episodi e tutto è diventato troppo prevedibile.

Forse dopo LOST avevamo aspettative troppo alte, ma questo è stato troppo deludente!

Seconda domanda: se in ogni episodio ci sono solo una o forse due persone dal 1963, quanti episodi e stagioni avevate programmato per arrivare a 302??

Ora che è stato cancellato, non sapremo mai esattamente cos'è successo nel 1963... Dunque.. veramente abbiamo già capito tutto! Non ci mancherà.

Women

...SEX AND THE CITY

We've a huge trouble writing a post about this tv series.

It's very difficult to find the right words to explain what this series has meant for us and for all the women who have watched it.

It was charming, glossy, funny. It was true, real, open. It was a mirror, or almost a mirror.

Our unconditional love for this show is not only for the way in which it showed women today. It showed also the problems they still live as women, at work, in bed, in relationships. It showed how they really are without social constructions. They are free and indipendent as much as they can.

And mostly it showed the real and unique friendship between 4 women. Every woman needs a friend as soul mate.

[Abbiamo avuto un enorme difficoltà a scrivere un post su questa serie televisiva.
E' stato difficile trovare le giuste parole per spiegare cosa ha significato questa serie per noi e per tutte le donne che l'hanno guardata.Era affascinante, patinata, divertente. Era vera,reale,aperta. Era uno specchio, o quasi uno specchio.Il nostro amore incondizionato per questo show non è solo per il modo in cui mostrava le donne oggi. Mostrava anche i problemi che ancora vivono come donne, a lavoro, nel letto e nelle relazioni. Mostrava come sono veramente, senza costruzioni sociali. Libere e indipendenti più che possono.E soprattutto mostrava la vera ed unica amicizia tra 4 donne. Ogni donna ha bisogno di un'amica come anima gemella.

characters to love: Niles Crane

...FRASIER

I can’t help talking about a sitcom I’ve always loved: FRASIER. It started as a spin-off of “Cheers” and it became one of the most successful spin-off.
Here I’d like to talk about my favourite character: I’m talking about Doctor Niles Crane of course, amazingly portrayed by David Hyde Pierce. I think he is one of the most funny characters I ever seen.. I love his moves, his lines, even his double-breast suits are perfect on this character: everything in this weird psychiatrist is hylarious.
To me the sitcom could have been named NILES... but I love Frasier too, together they form a perfect couple! Indeed I’m so glad to see again Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) in BOSS and I hope to see a new sitcom with David Hyde Pierce as the main character.

[Non posso fare a meno di parlare di una sitcom che ho sempre amato: FRASIER. È iniziata come uno spin-off di Cheers ed è diventato uno degli spin-off di maggior successo.
Qui vorrei parlare del mio personaggio preferito: sto parlando del Dottor Niles Crane ovviamente, interpretato in maniera straordinaria da David Hyde Pierce. Penso che sia uno dei personaggi più divertenti che io abbia mai visto.. Amo le sue movenze, le sue battute, anche i suoi abiti doppio petto sono perfetti su questo personaggio: tutto in questo strambo psichiatra è esilarante.
Per me la sitcom avrebbe potuto essere chiamata NILES… ma adoro anche Frasier, insieme formano la coppia perfetta! Infatti sono molto felice di rivedere Kelsey Grammer (Frasier) in BOSS e spero di vedere una nuova sitcom con David Hyde Pierce come protagonista.

 ...GOSSIP GIRL season 5

Finally is over.
It was so hard to keep on watching season 5..
Actually we arrived at the end for two reasons:
first - the location: new york city is the only thing in the series that is always beautiful
second (and most important) - we had to write this post!
During season 5 Gossip Girl looked like a soap opera, with a lot of unbelieveable events, predictable endings and the repetition of things happened a lot of times in the previous seasons.
Above all, we are disappointed by our favourite character: Blair Waldorf. Her religious devotion was like seeing her with a fake designer bag: it didn’t seem plausible at all. And what about when she thought that Chuck survived thanks to her vow?? Even Serena was smarter and told her that it wasn’t a miracle, it was modern medicine! But Blair is stubborn... this was the only consistent thing.
Eventually she was able to break up with Louis and what did she do? She started a relation with Dan Humphrey!!!!! That was the most unbelievable thing.. If we had a column named “worst couple ever” they would have won the first prize.
But in the last episode we are not surprised to learn that truth is she still loves Chuck.. That was so predictable but they had to do it of course. And what happened?? Chuck refused her! Please understand that this love story starts to be boring.... If you are not able to create other stories stop it!
But the worst thing was of course something that you can see only in the most dramatic telenovela: the resurrection of a dead man!
We complete simply by saying: we hope the next and last season will be better, otherwise they can stop it now.

E' stata dura continuare a guardare la quinta stagione..

In realtà siamo arrivate alla fine per due ragioni:

primo - la location: new york city è l'unica cosa nella serie che è sempre bellissima

secondo (e più importante) - dovevamo scrivere questo post!

Durante la quinta stagione Gossip Girl è sembrata più una soap opera, con un sacco di eventi incredibili, finali prevedibili e la ripetizione di cose successe un sacco di volte nelle preccedenti stagioni.

Soprattutto, siamo deluse dal nostro personaggio preferito: Blair Waldorf. La sua devozione religiosa è stata come vederla con una una finta borsa firmata: non sembrava proprio plausibile. E che dire di quando lei pensava che Chuck fosse sopravvissuto grazie al suo voto?? Persino Serena fu più intelligente e le disse che non era un miracolo, era la medicina moderna! Ma Blair è ostinata.. questa è stata l'unica cosa coerente.
Alla fine lei poteva rompere con Louis e che cosa ha fatto? Ha iniziato una relazione con Dan Humphrey!!!!! Questa è stata la cosa più incredibile.. Se avessimo una rubrica chiamata "le peggiori coppie di sempre" loro avrebbero vinto il primo premio.
Ma nell'ultimo episodio non siamo sorpresi di apprendere che la verità è che lei ama ancora Chuck.. Questo era proprio prevedibile ma dovevano farlo ovviamente. E cosa è successo?? The end

In these days the tv broadcast networks have canceled some tv series, old or new.

Here a list and a judgement:
Alcatraz: I'll write soon a post about it, but it was a good idea to cancel it.
The finder: spin off of Bones. It's a little bit surreal but nice. Nothing compared to Bones.
The firm: a good rhythm and a wonderful Juliette Lewis, but we won't miss it.
Awake: a good series, a fantastic script. Too bad!
Unforgettable: the script was very interesting, the actors were good. They could have produced another season.
Pan Am: did they really think to be the new "Mad Men"? Not even in the dresses. It's an excellent choice to cancel it.
The playboy club: only 3 episodes. Another great idea.
About the older:
CSI Miami: it's time to close also for the other 2 (Las Vegas and New York).
Dr House: they should have done it 3 seasons ago.
Desperate Housewives: they should have done it 4 seasons ago.
Chuck: I've loved this tv series but at the 5th season it was time to put an end.
Harry's law: nothing to say about Kathy Bates, but this series was the new version of The Practice or Boston legal. We already knew David E. Kelly loved tv series about lawyers.

Ecco una lista e un giudizio:
Alcatraz: scriverò un post su di essa, ma è stata un'ottima idea cancellarla.
The finder: lo spin off di Bones. un po' surreale ma carino. Niente di paragonabile a Bones.
The firm: un buon ritmo ed una splendida Juliette Lewis, ma non ci mancherà.
Awake: un'ottima seria, una sceneggiatura fantastica. Peccato!
Unforgettable: la scenggiatura era interessante, gli attori bravi. Avrebbero potuto fare un'altra stagione.
Pan Am: veramente pensavano di essere i nuovi "Mad Men"? Nemmeno negli abiti. Scelta eccellente quella di cancellarla.
